worth

I feel the same way. But the stress from my parents is not going away. Sigh. Sometimes I really feel like running out of the house and never ever coming back to see their faces.

Oops!

I just remembered I have a blog.

Time is passing so quickly and before I know it, the first month of 2009 is nearly over!

Well, this year is going to be another new start. If all goes well I should find myself back in school again…hopefully.

It has been full of ups and downs during the past two years, many lessons learnt and all, and I’m optimistic that things are starting to look up a little.

Ok, more updates later when I have the time!

Argh

Talking to my mother is like talking to one of those internet bots all the time. And my, it sure is a test of tolerance.

Mum: Oh no, now that Obama won, all the stock markets in the world are gonna crash!

Me: Why do you say that? Him winning might actually bring about something that the world needs urgently, change.

Mum: Well, they say that the markets will crash, and I dont think anyone likes the idea of a black leading the most powerful country in the world.

Me (getting pissed off) : Who are the “they” you are refering to? Those taxi drivers? Taboid news? Or the raving mad man on the street? And what’s WRONG with a black leading a country? If you dont know anything can you just shut up?

Mum: How dare you ask me to shut up! Look, China obviously dont like this guy and they are sure not going to make things easy for him. I tell you, the stock markets will crash tomorrow.

(And proceed to tell everyone else who will listen, namely the fellow gossipy aunties.)

You know, I cant believe that I share half the genes of this woman sometimes.

Divine comedy indeed.

Now for a quickie…

October 16, 2008 by alakazoomg

Oh well, things seem to be getting cold at work, now that my duties have changed and I have become more of an extra for the department (they even took my computer away!). Hmmm, I guess it’s time to move on to pursue my other interests. Funny how I kept getting bored so easily eh. >.<

Going online in the evenings never fails to provide some level of entertainment. Just this two weeks alone I had to deal with the usual depressed party,a bipolar sufferer who happened to be on drugs while talking to me (fasinating but freaky, I’m not sure if I can handle this long term as a psychologist though haha), and a brief insight into the world of an introvert seeing the world from her perspective (like being shut up in a mad house according to her lol). Now that’s interesting.

Dinner with Aunty Dee last week was great too, though it was a pity I couldnt join the rest of the gang at st james on friday. NEXT TIME PLEASE! I need booze! No, I mean…COFFEEE…

Oh, and my earphones are really proving to be too good to be used. So far I had two incidents convincing me just how good to perfection these little buggers are. Incident one: There I was, listening to my favourite tunes while ordering pasta at a cafe, and I gave a fifty dollar note to the cashier without collecting my change. And I was sitting at the table for nearly 3 minutes or so, immensed in the instrumental complexities of The Great Revival when someone tapped me on my shoulder and said “eh, your change lar!”. Well, to be honest, I wasnt sure if that was exactly what she said, because I was merely watching her lips and the money in her hands. But you get the idea. Haha.

Now incident two was slightly more embarrassing. I was on the bus, rushing to meet Aunty Dee when I suddenly had an attack of earworms. Knowing just how good my earphones are, and that Aunty Dee will be calling me, I proceed to change the profile of my phone to the loudest ringtone possible. So I was happily listening to catchy songs like Hard To Concentrate all the way till the bus reached my stop (which is about 20-30 minutes later), feeling slightly puzzled that Aunty Dee did not call me after so long. And guess what, upon taking out my phone, I was HORRIFIED to see missed calls by her. Then it dawned on me why people were giving me weird stares throughout the ride. (And I though THEY were the weird ones!) Perhaps they did not take to my Fragrance of Dark Coffee ringtone too kindly. Ha…!

Milky horror

September 24, 2008 by alakazoomg

Great job China, for shooting yourself in the foot, again.

When I first read about Melamine contaminated milk damaging infants in China, my first thought was “Oh, that only happens in infant milk powers so I can still continue with my chocolates and ice creams right?” THEN it occured to me that although my favourite ice cream might say things like “product of Malaysia” on its label, where did they get their milk come from? And knowing that all businesses love going for low cost cheap products to cut costs, it’s unsurprising that the milk probably come from that dishonest country.

A friend just sent me an email with a list of all the recalled products that have been recalled by the AVA so far (Note: Might not be accurate though it’s true that the major supermarkets have taken off some items from the shelves):

Anyway, I have found some images of the products mentioned above, (because I’m bored at work, and doing this seems valid if you are working in a food industry! Research, get it? ) just in case anyone wants to take a look. Take note though, that the pictures might be wrong because some products are specifically distributed in countries and the covers might be different.

I’m particularly disturbed by some of the products like youcan ice creams, Orion pies because I recognised the product and ATE THEM while I was in China last year. Oh the horrors. And what’s worse, I am quite sure that they are manufactured in China because it was advertised everywhere there pure China-made products. Yeah, so you think Meiji products come from Japan? *Evil laugh*

Meanwhile, I’ll think that it’s better to be safe than sorry, so try to avoid anything with milk if you can (hey, even chicken biscuits contains milk too!). On a brighter side, this also gives a good excuse for me to eat expensive ice creams like Ben & Jerry’s! Assuming their milk comes from other sources of course. XD

Turnabout money

September 13, 2008 by alakazoomg

People are always amuse/surprise/shock when I tell them that I actually like to do things that have a certain degree of unpredictablity and element of surprise. After two weeks into my new job as a purchaser, I’m more convinced than ever that this is for me hahaha. I just love the fact that everything is never constant, dull or routine. You never know what might happen at the last minute- perishables might rot just before delivery, goods might be delayed, a normally common item might suddenly be out of stock, weather changes, goods mix up, and 46322129876 other possiblities. (The funniest so far was the supplier trying to trick me. Old ginger for young ginger? Hellloooo? I’m not a noob ok! Lol) You might be relatively free for one day, and fighting fire the next. Of course, the pressure can be rather heavy at times (rush out an order in a few hours, harassing suppliers anyone?) but I am loving the adrenaline rush that comes with it (probably intensified by the regular dosage of caffeine). *Hums busy bee tune*

Anyway, I’m also learning alot here that are useful in managing a business next time, so things are looking pretty good. Another thing I like about this will be the job scope itself. Unlike all my other jobs where everyone just gives me orders and I follow blindly without questioning the rational (actually I did, but my supervisors etc shut me off), this job actually requires me to take up more responsiblities, like doing all the planning in ensuring that the goods arrive on time, the follow-ups, dealing with unexpected problems that crop up (murphy’s law!) here and there etc. I also like the fact that it’s pretty independent (you work on your own orders). Yeah I know what you are going to say, that I’m being underpaid, exploited and all (so say my HR friends haha), but dont forget that there are things in life that are worth more than money. Besides, I dont think I’m underpaid, as the stuff I’m handling seems kinda small (and not as complicated) compared to my mentors.

Still, money is money. My main aim of taking up a job now is to fund my DECEMBER madness! Hahaha…I cant wait. It’s gonna be wild. And to the whoever  school teacher cum moon-lighting psychic who predicted that there’s gonna be a major earthquake in hainan island…CUUUUUT IT OUT PLEEEEEEEEASE!! Believe in science! (Omg, I sound like Ema Skye, scientifically speaking.XD)

Viva la vida

September 5, 2008 by alakazoomg

OMG…Coldplay’s going indie! Haha…to be honest, I didnt think much of Viva la vida at first because I didnt really like Violet Hill when I heard that a few months ago. However, some of the songs in the album really blow me away. What I really like is the fact that you can tell that Coldplay’s having fun experimenting in the whole album. And the songs do have the indie feel too, which I love. Heehee.

Well, Viva la vida IS the song that first activate my earworms. Nice instrumentals, I love it when a rock band adds instruments like violin into their songs, and check out the chorus where the bells come on when “I hear Jerusalem bells were ringing…” was sung. And the lyrics. I love the mental images that form in my mind whenever I listen, of a fallen leader reflecting on his actions in the past, feeling guilty for some things he did and ultimately realising how nothing is forever. I dont know, but I think of the french revolution, Louis XVI ( Revolutionaries wait/ For my head on a silver plate/Just a puppet on a lonely string /Oh, who would ever wanna be king) as well as Napoleon at St Helena whenever I hear the song. Read about his last days here.

Oh and Chris Martin CAN sing LOW! Yes, no more high notes you get in X&Y and all their previous albums. What’s more, he sounds really good too…listen to “YES” and you will know what I mean heehee.

Just because I’m losing
Doesn’t mean I’m lost
Doesn’t mean I’ll stop
Doesn’t mean I will cross

Just because I’m hurting
Doesn’t mean I’m hurt
Doesn’t mean I did’nt get what I deserved
No better and no worse

I just got lost
Every river that I tried to cross
Every door I ever tried was locked
Oh and I’m just waiting ‘til the shine wears off

-Lost.

If you know me, you will know why.

It’s not over yet.

Viva la Revolution! XD

New beginnings?

August 20, 2008 by alakazoomg

If you are seeing his page, that means you got my new blog righto! Yes, I have decided to carry my barangs over from my old blog because my nosey, prying, irritating, loser of a sister was stalking me virtually. AND what’s more, she has been stalking her so-call friends blogs to find out if they have been studying more than her. NOW that is just LOSERISH behavior. Seriously, I feel like squeezing her out. She even got herself ADDITIONAL private tuition on top of the ones she already has. A total no-lifer if you ask me.

Right, that’s enough about that antisocial nerd. Let’s move on to better things. Well, needless to say, WordPress win me over in the end with their header template style, ‘clean’, wordbased image, private entry option and free counter. But I’m still not happy with the fact that no html add ons are allowed. That means that I cannot add in any shoutbox, tagboard or what not. Kinda disappointing in my opinion.

But still, I do like my header! In case you dont know, I’m currently addicted to this game series called Phoenix Wright. It’s a series of games where you play as a defense attroney cum detective. What really amazing about the game is the wide range of characters you meet especially in your investigations. Everyone of them are so interesting, with their own quirks and all. And let’s not forget the surprising twists, those pray-for-miracle moments in court and the pleasure of seeing the real murderer cracking up. Haha. I think I’m getting carried away. Anyway, the bottom line is, play it if you ever have a nintendo DS! XD

Well, I’m still very new to this whole wordpress thing so give me time to get all the links up and all. Oh, and I wont be totally neglecting my old blog too. I have decided to keep it there just for the heck of it. Hahaha.
